Network Solutions

As Technology and prices improve, more and more homes and businesses across the nation (and the world) are discovering the power (and sometimes frustration) of having their computers networked.   The most basic network allows two computers to communicate with each other, for example to read or share each other's files.   Most networks now are centered around a Router, which provides a direct connection to the internet through a DSL or Cable Modem.   The typical Router will also have enough connections (or ethernet ports) to allow up to 4 computers to be physically connected to each other.  Wireless routers will also allow a large number of Wi-Fi compatible computers to join the Network.

In addition to sharing files and a connection to the Internet, networked computers are able to share printers, scanners, and other peripherals as well.   You can even use one computer to control another computer's Mouse, Keyboard and Screen through Virtual Network Computing.   Modern Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac and even Linux operating systems have built-in software that will do most of the basic network configuration without much help, making it fairly simple to set up your own Basic network.

However, securing your private files from outside eyes can become difficult if you're using a wireless modem or you would like to allow certain access to your home computer for yourself (or trusted friends) through the Internet.   That's where router Set-up & Security and Firewalls come into play.  Unfortunately, all this can be very tricky to configure properly.
